The Affordable Care Act (ACA) includes provisions that require insurance companies to cover mental health and addiction treatment the same way they cover physical health care. Additionally, in 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act provided $4 billion for mental health and substance use disorder treatment services. For example, in 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act provided $425 million for mental health and substance use disorder services. These interventions can include outreach and education programs, peer support services, and partnerships with healthcare providers.
